Whether this is your first day of class or you will soon start class, you should feel excited. A new term, new courses, new subjects. You will be meeting new classmates and new lecturers. The more courses you finish, the sooner you will be completing your study and moving toward your dream career.
Whatever study or career path you choose, IMC and the library are with you every step of the way. Yes, it is a pandemic and some of you are under restrictions to travel. But don’t let that dampen your spirits. You won’t be disadvantaged in your study in any way. Ample learning resources are a click away. We are here to support you.
Online Orientation
Some of you would like to the visit the Library to see library resources and meet the Librarian in person. You have to wait until after the lockdown if you are in Sydney. You can still see the Library and the Librarian online. Join an online orientation.
In an online orientation, you will see the wide range of learning resources the Library has. The Library has some of the most essential, relevant and up-to-date online databases, journal articles, videos, online lectures, e-books in business, accounting, marketing, taxation, law, human resources, organizational behavior and other management subjects.
During an online orientation, you will be introduced to Subject Guides, subject focused web pages developed by the library staff that focus on specific topic areas with links to websites, journals and articles that will assist your study. An online orientation is like an online tour. It will take you through the library virtually, guide you through the Library website, lead you to our open online resources, study tips, success skills, research help, workshops, tutorials and much more.
You don’t want to miss this. Orientation takes about 20 minutes with additional time for Q&As with the Librarian. You can register a session or meet the Librarian online by visiting Ask a Librarian.
Purchasing e-texts
E-text is a quick and convenient way to get the texts you need for your study. During a pandemic, e-texts are indispensable. Buying e-texts is safe. You don’t need to go out or come in contact with anyone to get your texts. You can purchase e-texts in the safety of your home.
E-texts are practical. You don’t have to carry around heavy textbooks in your bag. You can access your e-texts anywhere anytime. E-texts are cheaper then print texts and can be downloaded instantly after purchase, rather than waiting for postal delivery.
Most e-texts reading platforms come with features like highlight, print, share, bookmark that make your study easier. It saves you the trouble of having to do all those steps manually as when you are reading a print text.
Most texts IMC prescribes have an e-version and they are available for purchase from the publisher websites. Get your e-texts. For further details, visit purchasing eBooks. Or you can book an online session with the Librarian to discuss.
Virtual
Meeting
You may be studying online and remotely. You are never alone. There are ways to connect with us: emails, phone calls, online chats, Facebook as many of you have done. We love to hear you. Join us for a virtual meeting.
At virtual meetings, you can meet up with your schoolmates, classmates, peers, fellow students and the librarian. The Library Virtual Meeting Space is especially for those who want to hook up. You can reserve your spot by emailing library@imc.edu.au. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing times and dates of the virtual meetings. You can select one that suits you.
Participants discuss learning tips, study habits, career plans, books to read, citation software to use, life under COVID and any topics that come to mind. Bring a topic for discussion or tell us what interests you.
