Library: Online Workshops for Job Search Skills and Resume Writing

Many of you have started researching into the job market or trying to get the relevant experience that you need to help you get your dream job. Whatever your goal is, you want to start your career planning early.

 

Career planning is a big task. It means planning your learning and work experience to develop skills that will help you start in your chosen field. It means using the skills, knowledge and experience that you have and makes decisions about training and work. Right decisions would lead you to the right paths that will give you a meaningful career with purpose, satisfaction and fulfilment.




Important aspects of career planning include searching for the right job and preparing a resume that will help you get the job. The Library is adding new workshops to help you to do just that.

 

Job Search Skills Workshops

This 30-minute workshop will guide you to look for the right job in the right industry that match your skills and qualifications. Topics to cover include Researching the job and industry, Knowing where to look (websites, job fairs for example), Be selective (you can’t apply to every job), Having an online presence (your social media accounts), Utilizing employment and recruitment agencies, Joining professional organizations etc.

 

Resume Writing Workshops

You can’t get a job without a good resume. The 30-minute session will guide you how to analyze a job ad, match your resume to the job criteria, what to include and not to include in your details, the dos and don’ts of resume formatting, organization of information, presentation and so on.

 



You can register these workshops by emailing library@imc.edu.au. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing times and dates of the workshops and you can pick one that suits your schedule. The sessions will be conducted via Zoom or Webex.


Workshops aside, the Library website is loaded with resources to help you navigate the various steps and processes of career planning. There are articles, videos, tips, links, job boards, advice centers, networking and tutorials. Through these webpages, you will get insight into how to do application letters, dissecting the selection criteria and preparing for job interviews. Workshops on these skills are in the works and will be launched as soon as they become available.
